Finals Week 2: who'll bring home the bacon?

Post by Actionman on Wed Aug 20, 2014 2:59 am

Well week 1 of the finals certainly didn't disappoint, in fact maybe the best first week of the finals in our 11 year history. 6 and 5 are still in the race and one of them have got a preliminary final in a weeks time that could see them become the lowest ranked team to make an SHB GF.

The Dragons are the only team left in the comp to have won it before, and I'm sure the neutrals (and the other former champs) will be hoping the Tractors get up and stop the Dragons before they can make a 6th GF in a row!

The Tractors pulled off a miracle win last round, and the draw looks favourable for them with the Bulldogs playing a 2nd grade directionless Tigers team on Thirs night football. They'll want to get off to a flyer and set the way like last weekend.

As for the bacon boys, smart money says this is a preview of the GF - can Pete make his first GF? Or will Jas get to his first one in 8 years! I'll let them make their own case.

And then there were 4.......

2 matches will decide the fate of the Blanca's this weekend, Bunnies v Cowboys and Warriors v Roosters. There are 2 teams I wouldn't want to face in the run home to the finals, the cowboys and the warriors....

Both the bunnies and Roosters should beat these teams easily on paper, but with a top 8 spot on the line anything can happen. Cowboys have beaten the bunnies and the roosters already this year and I certainly wouldn't write them off as easy beats this weekend. With the warriors, well its do or die. Lose this weekend at Mount Smart and the season is over, a fact Cappy would have reinforced this weekend.

Im not asking for 51 points from the cowboys but if they can give me a few and the roosters get stuck in an arm wrestle I should get over the line.

But hey if I don't there is always next week where I will be asking for a 51 point performance from the cowboys when they take on the Sharks.

Bring on Saturday.

Yeah that's the reason I'm hoping for an LFB victory...

Well not an optimal start to the week, with the Friend benched, and Uate injured.

The LFB bench looking the stronger bet.

Hipsters will be aiming to hang in within striking distance for Monday night footy.

Jesus. 3 out of 3 LFBs crossing the chalk is hardly an auspicious start for the Hipsters

Perhaps not quite a flyer, but my boys did well tonight! Plenty of fireworks to come from the Drags, and still a massive ask from the Humans of Remuera to keep this going, but with the underdog title comes no expectations, and plenty of hope.

There's also the fact that 9 out of 10 coaches want to see you lose Benzos. Crowd support is worth at least 4-8 points right?

I was a little scared until I realised you gave no chat all week, but still found time to send me a LinkedIn request! You've changed Danny!

Good start from the Tractors, but I'm happy to see no tries on the board as yet.

3 Dragons wingers, 3 tries and no regret for leaving out Paulo or BLawrence. Expected the 3 points from Toovs, but I'd rather have the tries.

Watmough was in the tackling spirit though. Still evenly poised...

What are you talking about?

Thanks to Asada, your hefty Raiders contingent should score big. I need some tries quick smart if I'm gonna get up for this one.

Benny Barba... I knew there was a reason I protected him, pity I didn't play him in the starting team!

I needed that from Barba with Thaiday and McGuire taking early showers and Gagai and Gidley offering precious little. Dragons take the lead, but all eyes will be on Inglis and Walkerd for the bunnies.

downgrade from McGuire costs the good guys 2 points, and his early shower costs us a likely -2 on the DF side.

Let's hope Tariq gets a well deserved upgrade

Would have been a massive haul for the Zooms, Ben's up and the Warriors got fukn destroyed. Sulk resuming immediately.

My forward pack decided to take the weekend off, I will need them next week.

Benji, Barba and Milford going crazy - this is how my season was meant to go all along.

Sorry Dan, thanks for knocking out the Zooms for us!

Could the Hipsters pull off a remarkable comeback? Some more points to come from Sunday's games and plenty of fire power left on MNF!

The hipsters remain an outside chance with a good forward performance and 4 strike outside backs to play on Monday . Going to take something special though

If Maloney gets the 4 the margin will be 13 points at start of play.

Waqa, Chambers, Moylan, DWZ & Hoffman v Koroibete, Bromwich & Lewbro.

If we lock in 4 points for Jesse B Hipsters will need 4 tries and a PP. It is finals though anything could happen.

Ben you should be praying for the Blancas win, the Sharks look absolutely terrible! The cowboys wil put a huge score on them next weekend.

5 points the difference, 40 minutes to play.

Can't help but think the difference will be Thurston's 4 point PP over Burgess.

What's all these Dalton references you are making - are you an idiot or is it some pun which is way over my head...

Lightening doesn't strike thrice, JC. My backline won't be that good next week, but my forward pack won't be so shit either.

I hope it comes down to Sammy B vs Benny B for the points. Then I'll truly know whether I made the right call on my PPs.

Hot tip you didn't....... Sammy B 2014 is the most prolific points scorer Nearlysport has ever seen (see Nearlysport round 23 email)

Ben Barba has scored less points than Dale Copley. In fact roughly half...........

Well, it was a good season while it lasted... Didn't think I'd make it to the semi's with my end of season form and injury toll, but 1 try was never going to be enough.

Congrats Benzos, but my money is on Pedro Plum from here out. Get it done big fella!

As for the Tractors, time to contemplate which of my big 5 are missing out on one of my 2 PP's. No one is safe for 2015 as yet.

Yeah but that's the beauty of the game - Barba outscored him this week, and this is the time of year that blokes like Burgess get an early shower.

Don't get me wrong, burgess is a machine, but everything that has happened before is irrelevant - it's what happens in the next two weeks that count!
