Finals football - can you feel the excitement in the air?

Post by Actionman on Tue Aug 12, 2014 5:02 pm

It's funny, but this is actually probably the best year of SHB in a long time. The Dragons finished 5th the Jaffas not much better and two teams without a premiership to their name finished well ahead of the pack.

Then there's the Zooms up and down like a yo yo but capable of beating anyone and becoming the first team to go back to back. They'll need to win 4 in a row against the toughest competition (well one of them is Danny!)

Bring on the finals I say, should be some exciting games, starting with a battle of sibling pride this week.

If I can't win it, I hope Jas can upset the Melbourne love-in!

Did you want a postal address for me James?

Tractors lucky to scrape into the finals, and we don't hold out too much hope of getting past the quarters. Players that started the season so strongly have either fallen away, or succumbed to injury. The Zooms are in ominous form, and we scored a big 0 last week.

We did beat James though.

Just to clarify, you actually scored -6.

Agree though, good close competition, a shame there wasn't more competition for finals berths. A five team final system would have been a cracker with the way this season ended, any number of teams could have missed out.

Also, glad to see the Merkins avoid what would have been surely the most unfortunate wooden spoon in living memory, having scored bags more points than his fellow cellar dwellers.

Also, fuck you all who didn't pick the Hipsters for the top 5! You weren't cool enough to pick this latest trend.

Fuck you, I scored zero. Check the scores.

Interestingly, a best of the rest comp this season could have actually been worthwile. I don't think my team of broken players would have even come close to winning it, and it would have been far more interesting than in years past, as long as there was coach involvement.

A big if in the second half of this season.

Big winners from a top 6 format are 2nd and 6th, big losers are 3rd it's exactly the same for everyone else.

Timmy early contender for Most Improved coach.

Was a good season this year, looking forward to seeing the the top 6 format play out. I dont think we are missing much with the BOR. There seem to be 2 teams that cared about the outcome, the other 3 are still MIA.

Wow no post from the Jaffa as his season is on the brink of disaster. Anyone who drops Robbie Farah to the bench is a muppet, what chance has James Segeyaro got against the machine that is Glenn Buttriss!

Let's face it - the Jaffas don't deserve to advance in the playoffs. Their coach is an absentee, one of the worst crimes in SHB and they have made some crap selection calls (ie toutai and reddy just soaking up space in an area we're pretty damn weak).

On top of that, I just got bitten on the ass by Thursday night footy and didn't get a chance to check late mail on it. All things being equal, I deserve to be knocked out.

But all things aren't equal, they're pretty unfair. And that will be Ben's reaction on Monday. It's unfair.

My team was purchased with state of house and the finals in mind. Gallen, Cordner, Merrin, 2 halves in peak form and a kicker who will be facing 4 leaky defences in the next month. manu's in great touch, getting PPs on a regular basis and let's touch on the hooker decision.

Segeyaro wins out because he's in great form, is scoring both attacking and defensive forward points and is highly likely to be a PP against his old team on Monday night. Farah has been battling illness - and can you imagine how hard a cold would hit a snoz his size? Plus his team is going to lose so no PP likelihood. I back the call and put plenty of thought into it.

Beating Ben and eliminating his rapidly expanding ass would make a forgettable year all the sweeter - and I can promise you a post when that happens.

Not only do I also miss the Thursady night football but once I realise I see that dirty sex rat promoter Inglis is in for a double!

Don't tell anyone but it's hard to see the Zooms winning four in a row. Just not enough steel in the forward pack to set the platform and cliche and so and so forth.

Still - if Hayne keeps up this obscene form who knows what could happen?

5th and 6th off to a good start,

Jaffas had no players, so hard to judge it, but good effort from McGuire and a try from Thaiday to go with a couple of cat Cs leave the Drags up 14-0. Points on the board always help in finals footy,

And what's all this crap about late mail. You've selected your team and unless you know that someone is out injured in your 17 don't know how that would have changed anything?

Inglis with a 16 point start might make the zooms earn it.

Late mail is checking whether anyone under an injury cloud had been ruled out since team-naming and texting a few mates in Oz who have been to certain team trainings. Like my mate who said Farah had missed training and wasn't in great shape this week.

Gallen, Lyon, Feki & Bailey have all been late withdrawals in recent weeks, so I like to try keep tabs of the ins and outs a little better than I did yesterday.

I can handle 14 points from those 3 players - could have been much worse.

Serves me right for thinking you guys had half a brain to rub together between you to work it out for yourself.

I flat out don't know who any of you have in your teams - the whole getting married through draft week in an area with little internet reception meant I barely knew who I had in my own team. I openly state I've had a disconnect this season.

Excuses excuses.... I picked 5 mins before the ceremony in remote Opito bay. Whilst people are normally overcome with emotion waiting for the bride to arrive, all I was thinking about was if Scott Prince would be the broncos kicker and whether his body would hold out for another season..

Jasper, ever been to a wedding where you haven't been asked to DJ? It's not that you're good, it's that you're free.

And just a note, if you're getting married more than once, chances are it means you're not very good at it...

Dragons keeping up their more than 4 points per player - 24 zip (or the equivalent) with 5 played vs 1. The real test is over the next 2 days and what The Jaffas heavy hitters can do.

Yeah that's what you should be worried about, the hard man quad. That means the tractors are looking on course to score about 50 met points, zooms can walk that on their day, but is this their day?

Pauly V gets a downgrade to Cat B, Tractors by 3.

Tomkins, Johnson, Morgan and Linnett v DCE, Choc, Whare, Scott, Mason, Boltron and a possible Koni. I'm cautiously confident.

Massive downgrade! Chickens counting and so on but that's bullshit. Nothing from Woods, what a shit cunt. Need a big game from the Warriors today and Cowboys on Monday. Apparently Koni didn't travel but it's still a numerical advantage to the Tractwhores.

I read about Townsend kicking just after lockout, would have picked Hunt but he didn't kick so hasn't made a difference. One big game from any of these players should do it for either team.

Drags are feeling very nervous - we may be 18points up at the mo, but with c. 10 points to farah, cord, Moa and Bailey to come we are talking easily enough for Segeyaro and Idris to chase, with Mansour the last surviving Dragon.

How did the Zooms rest the fastest player in the NRL?
