Sweet FA 2014: Better Late than never...

Post by Actionman on Sat May 31, 2014 8:34 pm

So with round 2 of the new rivalry round contest coming up next week,I started to think about where and when we should fit in Sweet FA.

It turns out that every round between rd14-18 has teams on a bye. So keeping with Sweet FA having full teams available then we'll need to wait until Round 19 to kick start this.

I propose a 3 round system again
Round 19: Qualifiers
Round 20: Semi-finals
Round 21: Final

That leaves round 22 to concentrate on Rivalry round and last week qualification. Should make for an exciting last month or so of the regular season.

So for qualifiers are the teams with the top 4 net scores of winning teams (NB net scores are subtracting oppositions DFs and adding your DFs to your score) make it through to the semis (1 v 4 and 2 v 3). Most number of tries and then position on the ladder to determine who goes through (except for the final - we could do a replay in round 22).

I love the environment of collaboration and constructive challenge we have in this forum - Mu where the fuck are you for a random disagreement about a minor rule - that's what SHB is founded on.

Happy b'day too Phiris.

So here we are, round 19 - all those silly byes are out of the way and Sweet FA is back.

As has been said previously -its a great round for some rivalries including the Minor Premiership battle and AckerDerby.

Remember the top 4 net scores by the winners go through to the next round.

You play whoever you are playing in round 19 - in this case Jasper.

The 4 winners of their round 19 matches with the highest net score go through to the semis (1 v 4 and 2 v 3 in terms of net score). In the case of a tie position on the table can be the tie-breaker.

gotta love the hype around these games...

Kudos to the table toppers - a kilo of bacon shows everyone the importance.

Anyone even read this forum anymore? I don't think Wiris and Sam do anymore

The noobs are still needing to win that 3rd PP so I would have thought that would be motivation for Dreas at least to get those Merks firing, you know like picking Billy Slater for instance?

Dragons are still holding out hope of a top 2 finish - whoever loses the game above may still be in catching difference.

Great, well I've been cunted by Thurston for the third time this year.

A 16 point haul, a 22 point haul, and now a 24 point haul.

Congrats LFBs, that'll be too much even for Sam Burgess.

Benry omission hurts! I took a call on taumalolo the bum. Jesse b needed to be dropped based on last weeks form looks like he is returning to a 8 point player. I would never have lLuke Douglas in my team. I believe the name u are looking for is Blanca old boy kade snowden.

I have never been this unhappy with a Copley double

Bloody Australian media - they say Mansour to play and Richards not, and in fact it's the other way. Those 6 points could come in very handy, thanks to Gidley's injury.

Still I could have selected Paulo and Thaiday in my starting line up, that could have helped things.

Well the Hipsters incredibly left 24 points out of the lineup this week, but even then it appears it wouldn't have been enough.

Well and truly porked.

First time in 20 years that both Ackermen are supporting Manly over the Dragons.

Need a try fest from Taufua and Hiku (but score them in the corner boys).

So many ways the Drags lost it for themselves - now I'm out of the sweet fa I'll let one of youse come up with the next round.

I'm guessing the qualifiers are 1) Sipp; 2) Rich; 3) Sam & 4) James? Or is it Tim?

stupid net scores, how do they work?

subtracting oppositions DFs? is that like your posted score, plus the total value of your DFs?

Or is it your score before the opposition's DFs have been subtracted from it?

Someone double check these but I have Tirau as top qualifier on 75, LFB 2nd on 73, the Jaffs 3rd on 48 and the TOA bottom bitch on 38.

This means this week it's the Zooms v. The Old Alley and the Blancs take on the Jaffs.

Take your score form last week - add your own and your oppositions dfs to it.

ie: as if their dfs hadn't been scored against you and as if your df's went towards your score as opposed to subtracting from your opposition just like in the olden days

LFB have cemented their spot in the Sweet FA final, looks like its the Jaffs with spot number 2 holding a 45-32 lead over Tirau at the mo.

Johnston a chance for a pp which would tie us up and squeak the zooms in on number of tries, 6 to 3.

Just had a thought if the ladder stays the same as it is now. The Drags and the Tirau will have to play each other first week of finals. That would be just marvelous.

39 all or close to it assuming Fifita gets his double. Hayne and Jenniongs should push the Zoms ahead with likely pps but this could well be decided by MNF...
